Meet Our Sunday School Teachers

Picture
Lizzy Depew
I am a 67 years young married mother of 5 grown children. I like to think of myself as young being young because I have always tried to live a vibrant and lively lifestyle. When I was young I took up skydiving, karate, achieving the rank of brown belt, dancing and lately yoga and exercise classes. My children are scattered all over this great country of ours. Therefore, I don’t get to visit with my grandchildren as often as I would like. I was a nanny for a family in Newfane for 25 years, maintaining the relationship I formed with this family and their grown children to this day. I love children and being part of St. Andrew’s Sunday School has given me so much satisfaction.

I lead the high school section of Sunday School and have formed a wonderful bond with the teens in my class. I try to meet them halfway, therefore maintaining their respect while becoming friends with my class. The teens in my class are close and share with each other their problems and tribulations as they grow up during these turbulent times. I monitor our talks, always helping them understand how God fits in with all their situations. They love to learn about how religion is relevant to this time in their lives

The challenge to the current adult generation is to make our church a place where a teen will feel the love of Jesus Christ. The way to keep today’s teen in church is to fill it with love. Teens recognize the real thing. We teach them, involve them by utilizing their talents in worship, in ministry and in outreach. St. Andrew’s helps them associate the church with pleasant times where they are taught how to live in today’s world.

My favorite things are: Singing in our church choir. I also like reading good books and going camping when ever possible. I especially love my little Min Pin dog, Bella.

People say: I “get” teens. They trust me. People also say I am a natural born comic which in this world keeps me a lighthearted person.

Cindy Harrington
Hi, I am Cindy Harrington and I teach the preschool through grade two children in our parish. We love sharing stories, songs, prayer, art work, and playing a variety of games as we learn about Jesus Christ. My philosophy of Christian development for this young group is to let them joyfully interact with the story materials, ask questions, and develop the foundation for all future Christian development.

In addition to working with St. Andrew’s Sunday school I work as a speech therapist with special needs children. I have three grown daughters who have been involved in many youth activities at and church and dioceses levels as they have grown. I have been married for thirty five years. I enjoy gardening, music, and reading. I have several cats and two dogs. My family and I enjoy camping, concerts, holidays, and St. Andrew’s Church.

Kathy Gregg
I am Kathleen Gregg. I have been an Episcopalian my whole life. As a child I attended Grace Church in Lockport. I married Martin Gregg and we have two children. Rachel is 23 and attended the State University of New York in Fredonia, and Seth is 19 years old and attends Medaille University. We currently live in Newfane, NY, and I have lived in this area for the majority of my life. We also have a dog named Max who is 9 years old.

I have attended St. Andrew's Church for 16 years, and I have been very active in the church. I am Co-Superintendent of the Sunday School and have been doing this for 12 years. I am also a teacher for the Middle School kids. I am a member of the choir where I sing tenor, and I am also involved in the Ladies Guild, Altar Guild, Covenant Teams, and Fish Fry dinners.

I am passionate about: Children are my passion! My own two children are my first priority. I attend my son's college Lacrosse games and tournaments around New York State. My daughter was a video production major in college so we would attend the shows and viewings she had. I am also constantly trying to find new activities and crafts to keep the Sunday School engaged. The more fun they are having and the more interested they are, the more they want to come back.

My favorite things are: I try to stay busy doing crafts especially for the church bazaar. I like to bake and bring my desserts to the Fish Fry at church. I also like to sing in the church choir.
