Located on Main Street in the Village of Newfane , the St. Andrew’s Community store has served the Newfane and surrounding areas for over 50 years. Parish members staff this community thrift shop. Some proceeds from the store are given to the church, which in turn donates a portion to other local charities. Food Pantry patrons can receive a voucher to obtain necessary items for free.
St. Andrew’s Community Store, by Cynthia and Jerry Harrington
St. Andrew’s community store celebrates a great year. We would like to send out a huge thank you to our volunteers, contributors, and community for all they continue to do to support the store. We are pleased to have trained two new volunteers this year. Our duties include: to greet and wait on, and give words of support each week to our customers. Volunteers sort, clean, and keep displays looking appealing to shoppers. Our work is a blessing and we are very blessed by those we serve. We have contributed $15,000 to St. Andrew’s church for this fiscal year. In addition we paid for the church ad in the 2015 Newfane Town tourism book, and purchased ads for fish fry and Applefest. The store continues its partnership with Orleans-Niagara BOCES collaborating with two special education classes to enable them to practice their life skills in a work setting. We have also recently partnered with Newfane High School’s Honor Society. Students in need of community service hours are invited to set up a schedule of volunteering with us. The store has donated approximately 300 bags of clothing and linens and 25 boxes of household items to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and the Veterans. In addition we have donated items to St. John’s for their rummage sale. We were open for Halloween and had 65 trick or treaters. We had two in-gatherings here at church as part of our stewardship program. Thanks to all who donate. Donation slips are always available on the church website. As we enter our 57th year of service to the greater community we anticipate a great year. In addition to keeping our volunteer teams strong we would like to train at least two new members. We would like to put a new roof on our building. We would like to complete installation of illuminated emergency exit signs which have been purchased. We are thinking about extending our hours on Friday evenings for four weeks before Christmas. We aim to create and maintain a pleasant, safe shopping environment for our customers and volunteers. We need your time, talent, and continued support. |
Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you for helping us to Serve the community by making available gently used clothing and household items to those in need.
