We
are a diverse community of faith called to love . . .
and support . . .
About
30 children are enrolled in Sunday School at St. Andrew’s, in 4
classes (pre-K to 2nd grade, 3rd-5th
grade, middle school, and high school)
In the pre-K through middle school our curriculum is Living
the Good News, an Episcopal lectionary-based curriculum in which the
children read and share activities in response to the Gospel of the day.
The teens read the Scriptures of the day and discuss what they
mean for their lives.
Parents
can share in the service with our youngest children in the nursery,
where the service is televised; restless children and their parents can
also attend the service in the chapel space in the back of the church,
We
include our children and youth in all aspects of our worship.
They take part in age-appropriate worship and discussion during
the first part of our service (the Liturgy of the Word), and they join
the adult congregation for a Children’s Homily and the second part of
the service (Holy Communion).
On
special feasts the children and youth participate in the service as
readers; on occasion they give a dramatic reading of the gospel.
Every
child is welcome to receive Holy Communion, but we also have a Communion
Class every spring for children who are seven or eight years old, so
that they can better understand what sharing Communion means.
Our Children’s Choir sings once a month and we organize family
activities for outreach and fellowship several times throughout the
year.
Our
youth take part in outreach projects during the year and assist in the
younger children’s classes. We
meet monthly as part of the Niagara Deanery Youth Group, for youth in
grades 6-12 from all the Episcopal churches in
Niagara
County
